Finger Paints ~ Steel of the Night Magnetic Polish

This is my first attempt at magnetic polish, and I can't wait to get some more. It was super easy to get the effect from the magnet and the color is sweet. It is a deep metallic gray, and the magnet causes a wavy effect. It was very hard to photograph, but I think I can still show your the waves :)

And, this polish was in the clearance bin at sally Beauty Supply, so I feel like I stole it!

Orly ~ Mysterious Curse

I picked up this polish at Sally Beauty Supply last week. Got it for practically free as it was in their clearance bin. Score one for me!! This polish is from the Dark Shadows Collection.

This is such a cool color. It shifts from dark blue (almost black) to a deep purple. The pictures don't do it justice. It covered very well in 2 coats and leveled out very well. If you don't have this, check out your local Sally Beauty Supply and see if they have it on clearance!

Different Dimension - Fifty Shades of Grey Collection Part 2 - Inner Goddess

So here we go with Part 2 of Different Dimension's Fifty Shades of Grey polish collection.

This is Inner Goddess...you remember her...I totally wanted to punch her in the face sometimes...

I put it on one nail and I decided it needed a base coat of white, so I used Sinful Colors Snow Me White.

I just did one coat and I wasn't very careful with it because I knew the glitter would hide the flaws.

Here is one coat of the Inner Goddess...

OOoooooooooohhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

This totally deserved a second coat!!!

Pictures do not do this justice at all!!  It looks like I have diamonds on my nails!!!  I could see using this for toes for a wedding or some other formal event.  It's just GORGEOUS!!!!!!  I can't believe how in love I am with this glitter!!!

Stay tuned for the last two...  More... and Red Room of Pain!!

Essie - All Tied Up

So I got a bunch of bottle of Essie nail polish.  So exciting!  The first one I tried was called All Tied Up...

I would call it kind of a neutralized pink color - the hard thing to see is the gold shimmer it has - so I took a photo with the flash on and while it distorted the color slightly - you can see the underlying shimmer in the polish.
It really is a pretty color and good for all seasons.  The polish went on nice and smooth and I would definitely wear this again and again!

Wet n Wild Fast Dry Swatches

These were part of the great deal I got at Walgreens for the buy 2 get 1 free sale. I love quick drying nail polish. I liked these, but was not too impressed with the formula. Each of these swatches is 3 coats, and as you can see, they are still very sheer. You might need some underwear on these to make them more solid.

First up is Gray's Anatomy. This is a grayish purple color with a chrome like finish. Very shiny, but as you can see pretty sheer with 3 coats.

This is Teal of Fortune. It is more on the blue end than the teal end to me, but the shade is pretty cool. It has some sparkle to it, but as you can see...still pretty sheer.

Fuchsiarama...I had such high hopes for you. I could tell it was thin as soon as I opened the bottle. It looked jelly like going on, but it is a nice color. But, as you can see this is the worst of the 3 swatches. My nail line (and the remnants of my previous mani under my nail) is pretty visible.

All in all, I wasn't too impressed with the formulas. I liked the fun names, and the colors have some promise. I would recommend wearing another color underneath them and see if you can get rid of the sheerness of the formula.

Julep - Rachel

With fall almost around the corner I just had to try this polish...

This is Rachel by Julep.  I scored her off of eBay which was a much better deal than the $14.00 you will buy it for on their website.

Just like the other Julep polishes this went on smooth and with great coverage.  It has a great shine without any top coat whatsoever!  I really love their product.

Julep Polish - Sandra and Chelsea

So my mother and I have been looking at these polishes made by Julep.  They go for $14.00 retail.  Way too much for me to pay, but there is always eBay!!

So off we went on a hunt for some bottles.  There were quite a few bidding wars but we finally got some.  Then we got some more...  And some more...  We ended up with like 12 bottles of Julep polish!!

My theory is if the polish is stinky it's a good polish.  Well this one does stink but it doesn't make the whole house smell.  My Mom offered her digits to try the first Julep polish.  We picked out Sandra, described by Julep.com as a friendly, frosted magenta.  We opted for a glitter accent nail using Chelsea, described as violet, purple, and silver multi-dimensional glitter.

We also scored a bottle of their top coat.

So here are the players!

This polish goes on SO smooth and has a nice wide brush.  We did two coats of Sandra on all the nails and one good coat of Chelsea on the ring fingers.

It took my mom a minute to figure out how to hold the bottle but she makes a fine hand model.

Sandra by Julep

Chelsea by Julep

Ladies and gentlemen, let's give our lovely hand model a round of applause!!

Overall, I cannot wait to try the rest of the colors.  They are gorgeous and go on just wonderfully!!  Highly recommend as a splurge if you are looking for a high quality polish and don't mind spending a few bucks!

More magnetic polish by Ulta

You might remember my prior post about the set of four mini magnetic polish I got at Ulta.  Well there were a couple more colors.  This is Opposites Attract...

And my Poshe top coat I use.  It's a nice navy-puple color.  I went ahead and did it the same way I did last time and...

Viola!!!!

I will say it is a lot of fun, though the top coat kept putting drag lines in my magnet lines...so I had to fix them a few times.  But I like them!  :)

Different Dimensions - Fifty Shades of Grey Collection Part 1 - 50 Shades

So I decided I needed more indie nail polish.  I was wandering around Etsy and came across Different Dimension.  She had a glitter collection of four bottles inspired by the Fifty Shades of Grey series.  While I have read the series, twice, it is a guilty pleasure read.  By no means is it a great piece of literature, but it sure will keep you reading.  Then regretting that you read it.  Then you move on to book 2 and 3.  Then before you know it you have downed at bottle of wine, you finished all three books in a weekend and your husband can no longer walk...

Ahem...

Anyway - here is the whole collection (and one of her necklace she makes as well)...

From left to right...50 Shades, Red Room of Pain, Inner Goddess, more...

She also puts a QR code on the back of the bottles so when you scan them it takes you right to her Etsy store...clever huh???

So I decided to put on a base coat though in her Etsy store you get full coverage with two coats.  She describes this polish as:

"This polish is packed with tons of amazing glitter in a grey jelly base! There are black & white shreds, gunmetal & matte grey hex glitter, superfine grey flakies, black hex, holographic silver squares, as well as black, sparkling white, holographic silver ultrafine glitter and holographic grey glitter!"

So of course I started with 50 Shades.

Here comes the photo bomb!

Revlon Timeless and 50 Shades by Different Dimension

One coat

Two coats and final product.

This glitter polish is very thick.  It has tons of sparkle and the grey jelly base really covers.  Unfortunately, I tried to make dinner too soon after applying my fast drying top coat and I messed it all up.  No fault of the polish, but the fault of the wearer and the impatience to feed her family...

Wah...

RIP 50 Shades manicure.  Until we meet again.

Stay tuned for the rest of the collection!!!!!!

Can't Hold My Lacquer's 100 Fans on Facebook Giveaway!!

Different Dimension ~ Bazinga!!

I love The Big Bang Theory. So, while shopping on Etsy, I came across this store, Different Dimension. She has an entire line dedicated to one of my favorite TV shows. I had to have it!

So, this is the first of the series. So far, I am crushing on it and looking for other things to paint with this glitter. My husband has said no to painting his nails...any other takers??

Description from her site:  This polish has a yellow jelly base with different sized yellow and red hexes, as well as little red and yellow glitter.

Are you ready...

Now you can see why I love it. I put on 3 coats of Wet n Wild megalast in a color called Heatwave, which is pretty awesome by itself. Then 2 coats of Bazinga! and a coat of Seche Vite.  The formula is excellent. There was no fishing for glitter...it just came out like that!

I'm just sad that in a few days I will need to change this to something else...but I do have 3 more polishes in this collection to try...so stay tuned!!

Oh and...Bazinga!!

Wet n Wild Megalast Swatches

I scored some WnW polish at Walgreens when they were doing a buy 2 get 1 free. The polish was $1.99 a bottle so it was a great deal and I was able to add to my growing collection.

This polish was awesome. The one drawback is that they have a new and improved brush that is bigger than a normal brush. It takes a little talent to get it to work. But once you do, it works awesome. Covers very well. This polish went on smooth and leveled out on its own. Each swatch here is 2 coats.

First up is Through the Grapevine. This is a nice pinky purple shade. Real shiny even without a topcoat.

Then, we have Bite the Bullet. This reminds me of a grayish purple. Very smooth to apply and looks great.

Our 100 Likes on Facebook Giveaway!!

The giveaway is right around the corner. We are so close...but still so far. So, we decided to let you in on a little secret. So, here is what is included in the giveaway:

This is China Glaze Glittering Garland. Isn't she pretty :)

And, there may be something else that goes with this, so let's get to that magic number of 100 so we can get this show on the road. Share Share Share!!!

Maybelline Color Show Swatches

I bought a couple bottles of this polish recently, and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and applicatiom.

First up is Styled Out from their denims collection. This is a nice sparkly blue, and it does remind me of the color of blue jeans. Also, this is 1 coat. It went on very smooth and covered nicely.

These next 2 are from the metallics collection. This one is Blue Blowout, and remind me of a chrome polish that Sally Hansen carried several years ago. It has a cool shine to it and it reminds me of shiny metal. This is also just 1 coat.

This last one is Bold Gold. Really cool gold color with a chrome like shine. This would be a perfect color for Olympic inspired manicures, so I will need to remember this for the Winter Olympics :)

Overall, I was surprised by how well these covered and went on. And, this is an inexpensive brand (around $5 a bottle). I can't wait until I can pick up a few more!
